If you are staying on Koh Lanta and looking for a true island adventure, a day trip to Koh Rok and Koh Haa is one of the most memorable experiences you can have. These two small island groups are famous for their crystal-clear waters, colorful coral reefs, and an abundance of tropical fish. Both places are part of the Mu Koh Lanta National Park, which means the environment is well protected and remains as natural as possible.
Koh Rok and Koh Haa are located in the southern part of Thailand, within the Mu Koh Lanta National Park in Krabi province. They lie about 30 kilometers south of Koh Lanta, making them easily reached by speedboat in around one to one and a half hours. Koh Rok consists of two islands, Koh Rok Nok and Koh Rok Nai, separated by a shallow channel. Koh Haa, meaning “five islands” in Thai, is a small group of limestone islets northwest of Koh Rok. Their remote location keeps the water clear and the coral reefs rich with marine life.
Getting to Koh Rok and Koh Haa from Koh Lanta is easy with an organized day trip (there are no regular ferries, only licensed tour operators are allowed to visit). Most tours include hotel pickup on Koh Lanta, followed by a transfer to the pier where you board a speedboat. The journey takes about one to one and a half hours, depending on sea conditions. Along the way, you can enjoy the view of the open sea and nearby islands. Trips usually stop at several snorkeling spots around both Koh Rok and Koh Haa, with time to relax on the beach, enjoy lunch, and swim before heading back to Koh Lanta in the afternoon.
